Steps to Take When Seeking Urgent or Emergency Pet Care
If your pet requires immediate care, follow the steps below.
- Call Ahead If Possible - For urgent but non-life-threatening issues, please call to schedule an appointment. In a life-threatening emergency, call one of the emergency animal hospitals listed above to let them know you are on the way.
- Follow Instructions Provided - When you call to let the emergency pet hospital know you are on your way, instructions may be provided to help you apply first aid or otherwise make your pet as comfortable as possible. Follow these instructions carefully.
- Remain Calm - Remain calm and be extra careful around your pet. When an animal is in pain, they often react negatively towards anyone trying to help and could bite or scratch.
- Bring Your Pet In For Care - Do not put yourself at risk! Safely bring your pet to our Seattle veterinary clinic or the after-hours emergency vet location above.

Do I need to call ahead?
Yes, please contact us to request an urgent care appointment. Madison Park Veterinary Hospital provides urgent veterinary care for cats and dogs by appointment, during our regular clinic hours, and as our schedule allows.
In some cases, we may accept drop-offs as our capacity allows. Please reach out to us ahead of your arrival to discuss our availability.
If we are unable to accommodate your pet, or if your cat or dog is experiencing a life-threatening health issue, we recommend that you visit the after-hours emergency vet location shown above.

Do you offer urgent care on a same-day basis?
Yes, we can occasionally offer same-day care for urgent situations, depending on our capacity and the severity of the case.

When might urgent veterinary care be needed?
Urgent veterinary care is for the treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries and conditions.
Conditions in which urgent care is needed may include:
- Abscesses
- Anal gland issues
- Back pain
- Difficulty walking
- Ear infections
- Eye discharge
- Minor wounds & lacerations
- Limping or mild lameness
- Not eating or drinking
- Vaccine reactions
- Skin allergies
- Upper respiratory infections
- Urinary tract issues
- Minor vomiting or diarrhea

What situations require emergency veterinary care?
The following situations are examples of situations that require immediate, emergency veterinary care:
- Severe bleeding or bleeding that doesn't stop
- Obvious signs of pain or extreme anxiety
- Choking, difficulty breathing, or continuous coughing/gagging
- Fractured bones or severe lameness
- Seizures and/or staggering
- Bleeding from nose, mouth, rectum, or blood in the urine
- Inability to urinate or pass feces, or pain associated with urinating or passing feces
- Severe vomiting or diarrhea; 2+ episodes in 24-hours
- Injuries to the eye(s)
- Your pet has ingested something poisonous (such as antifreeze, xylitol, chocolate, rodent poison, etc.)
- Heat stress or heatstroke
- Refusal to drink for 24 hours or more
- Unconsciousness
